International:
Leader says Iran will retaliate if attacked

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned on Wednesday Iran would hit back with everything it has if attacked over its nuclear program, which the United States believes is aimed at making atom bombs.

Khamenei, who has previously threatened U.S. regional interests if attacked, was speaking in the northeastern city of Mashhad to mark the Iranian new year, which falls on March 21.

"If they want to threaten us and use force and violence against us, they should not doubt that Iranian officials will use all they have in their power to deal a blow to those who assault them," he said in an address carried by Iranian television news. Read on...

Meanwhile, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday accused some big powers of waging psychological warfare against Iran, which is facing the prospect of tougher U.N. sanctions over its nuclear program.

Take It or Leave It - White House: No staff Q&A if subpoenas issued

If subpoenas are issued demanding White House aides testify on the firing of eight former U.S. attorneys, then President Bush will have no choice but to withdraw his offer to have his staff meet with congressional lawmakers informally, Press Secretary Tony Snow said Wednesday.

Presumptively, that would also include the offer to give over any remaining unreleased documents from the White House over the dismissal of the federal prosecutors.

Snow spoke after a House panel authorized subpoenas for at least five White House aides, including political director Karl Rove and former counsel Harriet Miers. The move is the latest in a brewing battle between congressional Democrats and Bush over the extent to which the assistants should respond to inquiries. Read full story.

Gore Implores Congress to Save Planet
But Gore faced a more skeptical reception than the warm embrace he received from Hollywood as Republicans questioned the science behind his testimony.

"You're not just off a little, you're totally wrong," said Texas Rep. Joe Barton, the leading Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, as he challenged Gore's conclusion that carbon dioxide emissions cause rising global temperatures. Barton and Gore's exchange grew testy at one point—Barton demanding that Gore get to the point and Gore responding that he would like time to answer without being interrupted. More here

Boxer Slams Inhofe’s Global Warming Filibuster: ‘You Don’t Make The Rules Anymore’
Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) has said Al Gore is “full of crap” and compared people who believe in global warming to “the Third Reich.” During today’s Senate hearing, Inhofe used a considerable amount of time to attack Gore’s use of carbon offsets and try to convince him to sign a sham “energy ethics pledge.” Watch the video here. Three more notable videos from Gore’s testimony today are HERE.

Making a List of Reasons for Firing US Attorneys
Senior Justice Department officials began drafting memos this month listing specific reasons why they had fired eight U.S. attorneys, intending to cite performance problems such as insubordination, leadership failures and other missteps if needed to convince angry congressional Democrats that the terminations were justified.
